Herd of sheep

Some people have inquired why it takes a long time for song submissions to appear on my website.  My hope is that this page will address this question and show transparency in upcoming reviews.

Below is my scheduling process:

  1. Balancing this website between work, family, and serving at my local church, I can maintain a schedule of at least one to two reviews per week.  These reviews come out every Wednesday and Sunday.
  2. Once a month, I fill the schedule with the top two songs from the most recent polls, with ties broken based on the earliest submission.  Each regular poll contains eight entries.
  3. Two weeks per month, I will suspend polling to schedule “extra songs”.
  4. I will run additional polls as needed to fill spots, ensuring one to two reviews per week.
  5. I keep an offline log of all submissions that did not pass polling and will select them randomly as the “extra songs” list.  This attempts to balance top-voted songs with other submissions and prevents selections from appearing in future polls.  Users may resubmit songs that appear on my offline log.
  6. Song submissions directly from the artist receive priority after the polls.
  7. I reserve the right to bypass songs outside of these restrictions, to balance artists and genres. I may also choose a song for my own edification that I hope will help others.

Below is a full listing of song submissions that are in the queue.  This includes upcoming reviews, the current polling queue, and extra songs.  I hope to revisit the final list when I have some extra time to crank out an extra review or two in a month.

Due to high submission volume, I will cap the polling queue at 32 songs before closing the form for two weeks.

Updates:

01/24/2024 – Per January 2024 announcement, I changed the schedule so that there would be two weeks of two songs run by polling and two weeks of one song per week run by “extra songs”.

07/11/2023 – Per August 2023 polls, I expanded the polling queue to 32 songs and changed polling from ~one poll per week to ~two polls every other week.

07/31/2022 – Per July 31st, 2022 announcement, I will further reduce the polling queue cap by two per poll release until it reaches 24.  Also, there will be no poll once a month, with songs filled from the “extra songs” list.  I also updated the language for the scheduling process.

01/30/2022 – Per January 30th, 2022 announcement, I will reduce the polling queue cap by two per poll release until it reaches 40.  This process will begin on February 6th, 2022.

07/28/2021 – Per July 28th, 2021 announcement, I removed Hillsong and Elevation Worship queues and will add their submissions to the regular polling queue.

05/22/2021 – With the “Extra Songs” list cleared of promised song reviews, it will now contain random song selections that did not pass polling.  I modified the language on step #4 and removed the phrase “(previously ‘did not pass polling queue’)” to fit this current process.  See the May 2nd, 2021 announcement for more details.

07/25/2020 – Added Elevation Worship polling that will run under the same rules as Hillsong.  Also, updated step 7 in the review process to include this artist.

07/21/2020 – Added a statement in red text about the 100-song cap mentioned in my August 2020 II poll.

06/07/2020 – In step 1 of the review process, I added “at least” before “two reviews”.  This clarifies that I’ll minimally do two reviews per week.  There may be opportunities (such as the current COVID-19 crisis) where I could do more.

05/03/2020 – In step 3 of the review process, I corrected the number of entries per poll.  It is eight, not four.  Also, in step 6, I added “that I hope will help others” at the end of the last sentence to communicate that my choices are meant to edify everyone, not just me.

11/12/2019 – See this page for changes to upcoming reviews.
