The word "Jesus" on a sign as people worship
by Vince Wright | March 13, 2022 | 11:59 am

Planetshakers, much in the same organizational style as, Hillsong, Bethel, and Elevation worship, is a church organization that releases albums themselves.  The band formed in 2000, three years after Planetshakers Church was created.  They also released a sister band entitled Planetboom in 2016, to reach out to youth.

Planetshakers released a whopping 42 albums and 13 EP’s and received many nominations for their work.

1. What message does the song communicate?

It is a listing of Jesus’ attributes as compared to others, including

  • Grander
  • More powerful
  • Loftier
  • Mender
  • Liberator
  • Conqueror
  • Lord
  • Resurrected

Score: 10/10

2. How much of the lyrics line up with Scripture?

All of it aligns with God’s inspired Word.

This song does not contain a Verse/Chorus/Bridge structure. Therefore, I assigned stanzas to each paragraph.

[Stanza 1]

Line 1: Jesus’ name is greater.  Period.  For example, He is greater than Moses (Hebrews 3:3), Abraham (John 8:56-58), Jacob (John 4:10-14), David (Matthew 22:42-45), Solomon (Matthew 12:42), Jonah (Matthew 12:41), John the Baptist (Mark 1:7-8), the temple (Matthew 12:6), the church (John 13:16, John 15:2, and Colossians 1:18), the sabbath (Matthew 12:8), the angels (Hebrews 1:1-4), and all creation (Colossians 1:16).

Side Note:  Special thanks to this Got Questions article for providing information on this point!

Line 2: There is power in the name of Jesus (Mark 16:17, Luke 10:17, Acts 3:6, Acts 3:12-16, Acts 4:30, Romans 10:13, and Philippians 2:9-11).

Line 3: The name of Jesus is higher above all others (Philippians 2:9).

Line 4: Synonym of line 1.

Line 5: Synonym of line 2.

Line 6: Repeats line 3.

[Stanza 2]

Line 1: Arguably, there is no other name that stirs such emotions in people, whether good or bad.  His fragrance carries the scent of sweetness or the stench of death, depending on the recipient (2 Corinthians 2:14-17).

Line 2: Repeats line 1.

[Stanza 3]

Line 1: This is so, because Christ is the Great Physician (Matthew 9:12, Mark 2:17, and Luke 5:31).  He also performed many miracles, including healing the sick, curing the blind, and rising from the dead.

Line 2: He came to set us free from the bondage of sin (Psalm 119:45, Isaiah 58:6, Isaiah 61:1, John 3:16-21, John 8:31-36, John 10:10, Acts 13:38-39, Romans 6:1-23, Romans 8:1-4, Romans 8:20-21, 1 Corinthians 6:12, 1 Corinthians 7:21-23, 2 Corinthians 3:17, Galatians 2:4, Galatians 3:13, Galatians 3:22, Galatians 5:1, Galatians 5:13, Colossians 1:21-23, Hebrews 2:14-15, and 1 Peter 2:16).

Line 3: Repeats Stanza 1, line 3.

Line 4: In Christ, we have the victory (Romans 8:37, 1 Corinthians 15:57, 2 Corinthians 2:14, 1 John 5:4-5, and Revelation 12:10-11).

Line 5: Aside from Jesus, there is no other name that can save us (John 14:6 and Acts 4:12).

Line 6: Repeats Stanza 1, line 3.

[Stanza 4]

Line 1: The first part of Stanza 2, line 1, referencing back to that section.

[Stanza 5]

Line 1: Quotes from part of Philippians 2:9.

Line 2: Combines Stanza 3, line 1 with Matthew 11:28-30.

Line 3: Combines Stanza 3, line 5 with His resurrection (Matthew 28:1-20, Mark 16:1-20, Luke 24:1-12, John 20:1-29, Acts 1:3, Acts 3:15, Acts 4:33, and 1 Corinthians 15:3-8).

Line 4: Jesus is sovereign (John 1:3, Romans 11:36, 1 Corinthians 8:6, Philippians 2:10, Colossians 1:16, Colossians 2:10, Hebrews 1:2, and Hebrews 2:10).

[Stanza 6]

Line 1: There’s just something about that name!

Line 2: Jesus is unique.

Side Note: In this live version, I heard other statements that were made that calls audiences to worship with them, alongside other common elements of live versions (leading lyrics, “shout”, etc).  For the worship of Jesus, see Matthew 2:11, Matthew 14:33, Matthew 21:9, Matthew 28:8-9, Matthew 28:16-17, Luke 24:50-53, John 12:13, and John 20:28.

Score: 10/10

3. How would an outsider interpret the song?

Unbelievers will easily identify whose name Planetshakers refers, listed 19 times! Planetshakers uses common adjectives to describe Jesus’ properties, making interpretation a simple chore. It’s a list of Christ’s qualities.

Score: 10/10

4. What does this song glorify?

It glorifies Jesus by listing His attributes, proclaiming Him to others who hear.

Score: 10/10

Closing Comments

Planetshakers’ No Other Name is impactful. It describes Christ’s many traits, including Healer, Savior, and Greater, bringing Him glory. Unbelievers should have little to no trouble interpreting it.

I highly recommend it for corporate worship.

Final Score: 10/10
