Planetshakers formed in 2000, three years after their first Planetshakers conference.  This spawned a megachurch in 2004.  In 2016, they created a youth outreach band: Planetboom.

Planetshakers released several albums and EP’s and received many nominations for their work.

1. What message does the song communicate?

This song describes Planetboom’s unshakable faith.  As “You” guides them, revealed later to be Jesus, Planetboom follows with unceasing amazement, depending on Christ who lives in them for strength and spiritual protection.  In response, they show their thankfulness through praise and song, inviting others to join them.  He changed them from the inside out.

Score: 10/10

2. How much of the lyrics line up with Scripture?

The whole song is Scripturally based.

[Verse 1]

Lines 1 and 2: Planetboom follow Christ’s guidance (John 15:1-10, 1 Corinthians 11:1-2, 1 Peter 2:21, and 1 John 2:3-6).

Line 3: Much like the crowds of Jesus in Matthew 12:23, Mark 1:27, and Luke 4:36, Planetboom is in awe of Jesus.

Line 4: Christ illuminates the darkness (John 1:1-8, John 8:12, and Ephesians 5:14).

Line 5: He is Planetboom’s defender (Ruth 2:12, 2 Samuel 22:3-4, Psalm 3:3, Psalm 5:11, Psalm 18:30, Psalm 27:1, Psalm 32:7, Psalm 34:22, Psalm 41:2, Psalm 46:1, Psalm 57:1, Psalm 59:1, Psalm 61:3, Psalm 91:1-16, Psalm 118:8, Psalm 121:7-8, Psalm 138:7, Proverbs 18:10, Proverbs 30:5, Nahum 1:7, 2 Thessalonians 3:3, and 1 John 5:18).

Line 6: He is the source of Planetboom’s strength (2 Corinthians 12:9-10).

Line 7: God’s people are called by name (2 Chronicles 7:14).

Lines 8 and 9: If Jonah is any indication, God has a habit of calling people over and over again until they obey His calling.

[Verse 2]

Lines 1 and 2: in Christ, all things are possible (Philippians 4:13).  Contextually, this refers to God’s power that enables us to be content in every situation (Philippians 4:11–12), including the places we go where God sends (see Verse 1, lines 1 and 2).

Lines 3 and 4: Planetboom’s response to Verse 1, lines 1 and 2 is to believe to the point of trust, much like the heroes of faith in Hebrews 11:3-40.

Line 5: See commentary on lines 1 and 2.

3. How would an outsider interpret the song?

Jesus, the Christian’s God, gives Planetboom the power and will to become victorious in their everyday lives.  They are just crazy about Christ! Unbelievers might misunderstand “keeping me safe”, especially when they face hardship and trials where God allowed bad things to happen.  While I understand that songs aren’t sermons, the “problem of evil” is a major source of contention that prevents unbelievers from following Jesus.  Planetboom could explain that they meant spiritual safety and not that God will always rescue physically.  Ditto with physical vs. internal peace.

Score: 8/10

4. What does this song glorify?

This song glorifies Jesus by Planetboom’s testimony of God’s love and affection for them as they ask others to follow Him.

Score: 10/10

Closing Comments

Planetboom’s Unshakeable is excellent.  Planetboom follows Jesus and receives many benefits, including guidance, spiritual protection, and the power to do naturally impossible things.  In response, Planetboom worships Him, asking others to join them.  This glorifies God.  Unbelievers should be able to interpret similarly, though perhaps misunderstanding the meaning of God’s protection and peace.

Considering its rap style, this makes it difficult to recommend for corporate worship.

Final Score: 9.5/10
