2. How much of the lyrics line up with Scripture?

Yup.

[Verse 1]

Lines 1 and 2: Not literally, but within the door of our hearts (Revelation 3:20).  Also, God is King (Exodus 15:6, Exodus 15:11, 1 Chronicles 29:11, 2 Chronicles 20:6, Psalm 24:10, Psalm 93:1, Psalm 110:2-3, Psalm 104:1, Psalm 145:5, Psalm 145:12, Job 37:22, Isaiah 24:14, Isaiah 26:10, Hebrews 1:3-4, Hebrews 8:1, Revelation 4:1-11, and Revelation 19:7-16).

Lines 3 and 4: We come expecting for God to respond (Mark 11:24).

[Pre-Chorus]

Lines 1 and 2: That is, lives transformed into new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17).

[Chorus]

Line 1: Essentially repeats Verse 1, line 2.

Line 2: We worship Him (Psalm 86:12, Psalm 103:1-2, Psalm 103:22, Psalm 119:10, and Psalm 138:1).

Line 3: Repeats line 1.

Line 4: That is, freedom and life in Christ (Psalm 119:45, Isaiah 58:6, Isaiah 61:1, John 3:16-21, John 8:31-36, John 10:10, Acts 13:38-39, Romans 6:1-23, Romans 8:1-4, Romans 8:20-21, 1 Corinthians 6:12, 1 Corinthians 7:21-23, 2 Corinthians 3:17, Galatians 2:4, Galatians 3:13, Galatians 3:22, Galatians 5:1, Galatians 5:13, Colossians 1:21-23, Hebrews 2:14-15, and 1 Peter 2:16).

Lines 5 and 6: Much like the 24 elders in Revelation 4:10.

Line 7: Essentially repeats line 1.

[Verse 2]

Lines 1 and 2: Likely referencing Isaiah 61:1 and Galatians 5:1.  The walls represent the barrier between us and God due to our sin.

Line 3: Repeats line 2.

Line 4: The power over the grave comes from Christ who defeated death (Isaiah 25:8, Hosea 13:14, Luke 20:35-36, 1 Corinthians 15:24-26, 1 Corinthians 15:55-57, 2 Timothy 1:10, and Hebrews 2:14).

Line 5: That is, the name of Jesus (Philippians 2:9).

Line 6: Essentially repeats line 5.

[Bridge]

Lines 1-4: God calls us to not fear because He will rescue (Genesis 15:1, Joshua 1:9, Deuteronomy 31:6, 1 Chronicles 28:20, Psalm 23:4, Psalm 27:1, Psalm 34:4, Psalm 56:3-4, Psalm 94:19, Psalm 115:11, Psalm 118:6, Isaiah 35:4, Isaiah 41:10-13, Isaiah 43:1, Isaiah 54:4, John 14:25-27, Romans 8:15, Romans 8:38-39, 2 Timothy 1:7, Hebrews 13:5-6, 1 Peter 3:13-14, 1 Peter 5:6-7, and 1 John 4:18.  Also, the end of line 4 contains calls to Casper the friendly ghost.  Finally, the dry bones references Ezekiel 37:1-14.

Lines 5-8: Repeats/essentially repeats lines 1-4.

Score: 10/10

3. How would an outsider interpret the song?

Assuming that unbelievers know very little about the Bible, the word “Jesus” is an obvious reference to Christianity.  They will conclude that Christians worship Christ as their King and Liberator.

Score: 10/10

4. What does this song glorify?

Christ is King of our hearts.  We bow down in awe, reverence, and surrender.

Score: 10/10

Closing Comments

Phil Wickham’s The King Is In The Room is worship song that checks the boxes.  Those boxes include Christ as King, strongholds breaking, yielding to His will, and revival.  These bring Him glory.  Unbelievers should easily interpret this song.

This song is suitable for corporate worship.

Final Score: 10/10
